RESERVOIR returns to FNB Art Joburg 2026 with a solo presentation by Mankebe Seakgoe.

Seakgoe titles the body of work, And if we must dance let it be on water. She writes:

I’ve had this word floating in my head on repeat - ’Serurubele’ - it sounds like a song. I’ve definitely heard it before right? I can’t place the memory but I find the song and it’s titled ’Serurubele’ by The Tswana Choir. Serurubele translates to butterfly in Setswana and Sepedi. The song goes "Serurubele, serurubele sa Mma... Serurubele, serurubele sa Mmabatho. I want to see a butterfly ke batla ho bona serurubele. I want to see a butterfly, ke batla ho bona serurubele.” they go on like this for three minutes and sixteen seconds. In my head it has yet to stop. It becomes an incantation. Magical words from magical voices. I heard the term “Magical voices” for the first time just recently at a talk by Neo Muyanga. Sometimes words touch the stickiest part of my brain.
